Theme I: 10:15 – 12:30: The experience of other nations that have suffered genocide

Chair: Professor Dlawer Ala Aldeen, Professor of Clinical Microbiology, Nottingham University Hospital

10: 30 – 10: 50: The Holocaust: Dr Philip Spencer, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences at Kingston University

10:50 – 11:10: Armenian Genocide: Desmond Fernandes, author of The Kurdish and Armenian Genocide: from censorship and denial to recognition.

11:10 – 11:30: Examples of genocide in the 21st century: Dr. Gregory H Stanton, President of Genocide Watch

11:30 – 12:30 Penal discussions: How to use these case studies in the case of genocide of Kurds

Theme II: 13:30 – 15.30: Explore how national and international laws, treaties, and conventions can be used to internationally recognize the Anfal and Halabja atrocities as acts of genocide

Chair: Mr Shorsh Haji, Lecturer, researcher and author of: Anfal, The Kurds and the Iraqi State.

13:30 – 14:00: International law in relation to definition and legal recognition of acts of genocide: Nick Donovan, Head of Policy and Research for the Aegis Trust.

14:00 – 14:20: Kurdish Genocide in the international law: Dr Munther Al - Fadhal, Expert in the Middle Eastern laws, co-author of the Iraqi constitution

14:20 – 14:40: The implication for Kurds of such recognition in relation to acts of genocide committed against them: Chiara Venturi, International Peace Bureau, Geneva

14:40 – 15:30: Penal discussions: How can the international law, treaties, and conventions be applied to the Kurdish case.
