Date: 8th April 2009 to 8th April 2009

Time: 2.00pm - 5.00pm

Location: Imperial War Museum London

Forced Journeys: Artists in Exile in Britain c.1933-45, currently showing at the Ben Uri Gallery, is closing on 19 April 2009.

You are invited to this half-day study day, jointly organised by Ben Uri Gallery and the Imperial War Museum. Hear co-curators Rachel Dickson and Sarah MacDougall speak about Forced Journeys and watch a screening of two short films from the exhibition: The Beekeeper by Sara Preibsch, exploring the experiences of her émigré grandfather who was a member of the Luftwaffe, and a recently recorded interview with Ernst Eisenmayer by Professor Fran Lloyd, Kingston University.

Imperial War Museum Curator Ulrike Smalley will give a short introduction to the Internment Collection, and Imperial War Museum Educator Grant Rogers will be in conversation with Kurdish artist Osman Ahmed. Finally, Dr Lavinia Braun will talk about the work and internment experiences of her father, Dusemond, interned in Kenya from 1939 to 1942.

This study day is free to join, but please book your place through the Imperial War Museum by emailing rsvpart@iwm.org.uk.
