The Kurds in a transforming Middle East

and Luqman Barwari, President of the Kurdish National Congress, North America

Dr. Hisyar Ozsoy will be the keynote speaker on the topic, "The Kurds in a Transforming Middle East". The event will be held at the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on January 26, 2013 (Saturday) at 7:00 p.m. The address is 3331 Old Conejo Road, Newbury Park, CA 91320. Luqman Barwari, president of the Kurdish National Congress of North America, will also provide information about the Kurdish people.

Dr. Ozsoy is an Assistant Professor of Sociocultural Anthropology at the University of Michigan, Flint. He has done extensive research and public lectures on the politics of Kurdish conflict in Turkey and the Middle East. His broader research is concerned with nationalism and state formation, ethnic conflicts, political violence, social movements, minority rights and peace building. He regularly teaches courses on social change, political movements and the cultures, histories and politics of the Middle East.

The evening will also feature Kurdish music, food and dance. This event is free and open to the public.
