Lakhdar Brahimi is United Nations Special envoy in Iraq. He is an Arab chauvinist and anti-Semitic. He was pro-Saddam when he was Minister for Foreign Affairs of Algeria from 1991 to 1993 and Under-Secretary-General of the League of Arab States from 1984 to 1991.
Not only did Brahimi endorse Saddam Hussein and remain a close ally to him, he also denied that Saddam Hussein, the glory of Arab Leader as he described him, had ever used chemical weapons.
Brahimi announced on French radio that "The great poison in the region is this Israeli policy of domination and the suffering imposed on the Palestinians" as well as the "equally unjust support of the United States for this policy."
In an interview, regarding the thugs and criminals in Faluja fighting United States forces, Brahimi said, "In this situation, there is no military solution." He added, "There is never any military solution to any problem.” He is trying to hide his hidden agenda in the Middle East and his anti-western and pro-Arabic chauvinist idea.
Brahimi is not trying to find a suitable solution for the current situation or trying to understand the scope of a brutal regime like Saddam’s and what he had done to the people of Iraq. He has a lack of understanding of this brutal regime because he was one of the supporters of Saddam Hussein. He is from the old School of thinking that people have to be controlled and dictated to by a man like Saddam. He believes in pan-Arabism.
When Halabja had been bombardment by chemical weapons in 1988 killing over 5000 people and wounding more than 20,000 and also during the Anfal Operations to eliminate Kurds when more than 183,000 Kurds disappeared by order of Saddam Hussein, Mr. Brahimi was Under-Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. Not only did Brahimi endorse Saddam Hussein and remain a close ally to him, he also denied that Saddam Hussein, the glory of Arab Leader as he described him, had ever used chemical weapons.
Now he is in Iraq with rigid Arab nationalist mentality trying to find a formula for Iraq, which the United States of America has failed to do. He is talking about one Iraq, not mentioning ethnic minorities and the suffering of the Kurds during all the Iraqi regimes in the last century. He has never raised his voice or condemned those Arab regimes, which run the area with iron fist.
Bringing people like Mr. Brahimi to Iraq to find some kind a solution, help Iraqi people in the transformation of the power by June 30th, 2004, and somehow arrange an environment for an election to be held in the near future, indicates that the USA cannot do the job and are desperate to get out of this messy situation. The USA is struggling to win the battle in Faluja and in Southern Iraq. So far, they are unable to do so. Surprisingly a super power like the USA asks Iran or Saddam’s Army Officers to bring peace to Iraq with the help of Mr. Brahimi. This shows that when the USA wants to save it’s neck, keep credibility in the world and still be considered a Super Power, it will do anything without regard for human life or the democracy as they claimed to want to establish in Iraq after they could not find any weapons of mass destruction (WMS).
History repeats itself. The USA cannot be trusted. The USA only wants to do what is best for it’s interest. It is rare to find that the USA has done something for mankind without getting any national benefit. And when it comes to self-interest, the USA is not afraid to do any inhuman actions. History has proved this when they used the atomic bomb on Japan. Now again in this new era, the USA is willing to undo all the claims they had about Iraq and the Middle East in order to get out of the situation as victorious and as a strong super power. They are willing to abandon friends and betray them as they had done in the past.
Now again the USA is about to betray Kurds and uses them for selfish purposes while having good relationships with other Arabic regimes at the expense of Kurdish people. We can see this now when they bring back Saddam’s old high ranking officers to control the situation for them, when they bring Mr. Brahimi to re-establish a fallen state and create another strong monster for Iraqi people in the region. Mr. Brahimi and Mr. Bremer, the Iraqi Civil Administrator, both share the same old concept, ‘If you cannot beat them, buy them’. So now, both men on the behalf of the USA are buying the terrorists and thugs and criminals to control Iraq again.
Imagine what will happen if the USA leaves the Kurdish people to the mercy of Arab nationalists and Muslim fundamentalists after they turn power to them and leave Iraq. Kurdish people would be victimized again once by the USA and then by the new Arab nationalist government who would think that the Kurdish people betrayed the country by helping the USA and standing side by side with the USA army during the liberation of Iraq and after the war. It will be easy for them to find excuses to take revenge on the Kurdish people in such a situation, which could be created by the USA and Mr. Brahimi.
Kurdish people should have known better than to trust the United States considering their history and experience with them for over a century.
Kurdish people should have known better than to trust the United States considering their history and experience with them for over a century. Now is the right time for Kurdish people to declare their independence and there will be huge support for them from everywhere. This is a very historical opportunity and we have to act upon it otherwise Kurdish people will be left alone at the mercy of the thugs and criminals of Iraqi society.
